About WISE in Scotland
The WISE (Women Into Science and Engineering) Campaign aims to:
- attract more girls and women into science, engineering and technology (SET)
- support other organisations that enable girls and women to advance their careers in these areas
- support other organisations that ensure girls and women remain in the SET sector.
WISE was set up in 1984 to help improve the balance between men and women in SET. Only 7% of engineering students were women then. This percentage has now risen to 15%, but there is still lots to do. At the moment women are still missing out - and so are employers!
WISE is a UK-wide campaign. WISE in Scotland is part of the campaign. We aim to promote science, engineering and technology opportunities to women in Scotland. The WISE in Scotland website focuses on Scottish businesses, education and training opportunities – especially for girls and young women deciding what career to follow.

About Girls Get SET
Girls Get SET aims to encourage girls to choose science subjects at school, and particularly to consider science, engineering and technology as higher education and career choices.
Girls Get SET is a collaboration of the four higher education institutions in Edinburgh – Heriot-Watt University, Napier University, Queen Margaret University College and the University of Edinburgh. Girls Get SET works with 20 schools around Scotland to develop awareness of and enthusiasm for SET among female pupils. Girls Get SET aims to encourage girls to choose and stick with science subjects at school, and particularly to consider SET as higher education and career choices. Each year 100 female pupils from these schools attend a week-long residential school in Edinburgh where the girls explore science and engineering subjects and careers through fun, imaginative hands-on workshops at the four institutions.
